Since I bought my Korg Karma back in August 2006, I became a synth addict ! More than I know about sound synthesis, I want more synths to complete my sonic arsenal.
Being a member of a band and a contributor to the composition process, I think of many ideas I could do but then I am faced with the limitations of my Korg Karma. For instance, I would like to add some vocal samples or extra samples, like Money(Pink Floyd) intro samples, but I can’t because my Karma doesn’t have a sampler. Also having a virtual analog or real analog synth to have nice fat, punchy sounds to do leads, bass and pads, which my Karma can do, but the tweaking isn’t as fun with a lot of dedicaded knobs. I would like also to develop my own organ tone, but I can’t manipulate each inividual drawbar. Also, I would like to EQ each sound in a COMBI without using the limited IFX slots.
One instrument that can do it all is the Korg OASYS, but it way too much expensive for a student. Today, I read about the Prophet ‘08 and it looks very interessing, including the fact it’s only about $2000US and it’s a real analog synth with patches.
For my wish list of gear go as:
-Korg OASYS with EXi LAC-1, MOD-7 and EXs3 Brass and Woodwinds
-Dave Smith Instruments Prophet ‘08 (Analog goodness)
-A good mixer to input all my synths into (haven’t lookeded into the market yet)
-Studio monitors (haven’t looked either)
-Live Stereo Keyboard amp
With the Korg OASYS, the Korg Karma and the Prophet ‘08, I would get the complete sonic arsernal I need. Then it’s just a dream for me, because I can’t affort any new synth currently to pay my studies
